Historic Feat: SDA Bocconi School of Management’s MBA Program Ranked #6th in the World

The 2023 MBA Rankings by the Financial Times have brought forth a historic achievement for the SDA Bocconi School of Management: its full-time MBA program has been ranked sixth in the world. The one-year MBA program has surpassed some of the most established schools in the world to attain this outstanding recognition. It is important to note that the ranking by Financial Times is one of the most prestigious rankings in the world. “It is the most difficult ranking, coming from the oldest tradition of American business schools,” says Stefano Caselli, Dean of SDA Bocconi. “For this reason, the sixth position is a very prestigious achievement, but more importantly, it is a demonstration of the strength of our school, an open and inclusive, international place that can attract and transform talent from all over the world to make a significant impact in society.” The ranking is a matter of great pride for the International Master in Business program that SDA Bocconi partially runs at SDA Bocconi Asia Center, Mumbai which allows meritorious Indian students to achieve masters from SDA Bocconi with a meaningful Indian experience. The programs offered at SDA Bocconi Asia Center, Mumbai effectively mix the practical learning approach of the full-time MBA program with the familiar structure of a top Indian post-graduate program. The programs at SDA Bocconi Asia Center offer a tight-knit and diverse environment, with an international specialization immersion in Milano along with students joining from as many as 80 nationalities during immersions. Interestingly, the programs in India and Milano are taught by the distinguished international Bocconi faculty, who teach around the world and bring international experiences and cases into the classroom. This, combined with a unique peer-to-peer cultural interaction is what makes the programs and their learning experience so unique. The SDA Bocconi School of Management is one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious business education institutions, and the ranking has further helped establish its brand value on the global stage for the Bocconi Alumni community of 120,000. The prestigious worldwide ranking is sure to solidify SDA Bocconi’s presence as one of the top business schools in the world, attracting in turn the most highly-motivated goal-achievers worldwide who are looking for a transformational learning experience in their careers. What is the best time to apply for an Executive Program?
The best time for applying to IEMB, the MBA for Executives in Mumbai? During the last couple of years, we have met a lot of senior Executives and HR Managers during the enrolment and one to one consultations and lot of discussions happened around what is the best time to do an EMBA (Executive MBA) and what is the expected impact of such program. An EMBA is a fundamental milestone to advance the personal leadership path and to strengthen managerial skills to accelerate the development of high-potential leaders. There are different reasons beyond the decision to attend an EMBA and therefore there is not a one fits all moment for this decision. An executive MBA requires a minimum of 5 years of experience and it is fundamental to have the aspiration to make a change in one’s own professional life: for example, re-start the career after a maternity break; moving to a multinational company to get a better exposure and international opportunities; becoming an entrepreneur; strengthen and relaunch a family business; upgrade yourself to the next phase of your professional career. Our current Executive Master students have told us that they have considered a variety of factors before making the decision to pursue their masters with MISB Bocconi, Mumbai. One of the students was not able to decide whether to pursue an EMBA from a European Business School like MISB Bocconi or stick to an Indian Executive MBA since the student already had an MBA from an Indian Business School. In the end, the student decided to join Bocconi IEMB because he felt that the Indian EMBAs are not able to provide the necessary global exposure which is very much required for an international career. Another student was contemplating between Full-time, by pausing the career, or Part-time where he will have to take extra load of work and effort. In the end, he chose the part-time as this will keep the career accelerated, giving the opportunity to apply the lesson learned immediately and to provide an advantage to the company. Another student felt that if she didn’t upgrade herself, she wouldn’t see a lot of momentum in her career. For another student, it was much more cost effective as compared to doing an EMBA from any top business school based outside India, as IEMB the International executive masters in business has the same curriculum and same faculty that provides the same certification as SDA Bocconi school of management, Italy but at a third of its cost. We are here to help you make this decision and it is always a pleasure to meet the candidates to discuss the same. How to seek the support of your employer for Executive Education or Executive MBA?
With an Executive Education program like International Executive Masters in Business (IEMB) at MISB Bocconi, Mumbai you can continue to work full time whilst pursuing an international Executive education. However, participants want to make the most out of the Executive education by giving the necessary time and effort to attend the executive program. This requires the employer to support for the time off to attend classes, the two immersion weeks in Milan, Italy, and an optional week to attend international electives too. Sometimes the participants are also able to secure financial sponsorship for their Executive education in India or abroad. So what should the participants do? They should sit down with their Manager and explain the benefit of Executive education or specific executive programs like ours “the International Executive Masters in Business” and the benefits for the company and the team. One way could be explaining this as a business case, as in how Executive education could benefit more to the organization rather than focusing on your personal development. Before you sit down with the manager, make sure you answer these questions: Why this executive program in Mumbai? Why Bocconi’s International Executive Masters in Business -IEMB? How does this program fit in your overall development? How can this executive program help the organization? What’s the cost of the executive program and how do you plan to fund it? How much of company sponsorship is required? In the case of sponsorship for an executive MBA, what will you commit to the company? Answer these questions and you might be able to understand how much support you can get. MISB Bocconi is available to support you by meeting you or your managers in person. Four main reasons to choose Executive MBA
Executive education is changing fast to capture the corporates’ needs and job market trends. In the last few years, worldwide, all the executives interested in enhancing their career have chosen an Executive MBA, which is quite different from MBA for executives. An Executive MBA is a part time program, which comes in different formats: week-end formula, evening formula or made of five-day concentrations every 3/4 months. On an average, it is of an 18-20-month length, delivering from 500 to 550 hours of lessons, through a mix of classroom and on-line courses. It is noteworthy that the effectiveness of on-line modules has significantly improved thanks to new and specific methodologies conceived especially by those business schools that have also developed MOOC – Massive Open Online Courses. Executives, as well as companies, prefer part-time Executive MBA for four main reasons. The learning is faster and more effective, as participants immediately apply what they learn in class to their organizations. In turn, the organizations instantly see the benefit of the investment, especially if they sponsor (fully or partially) the tuition fee. Further, they can leverage the new skills and approaches that participants bring from the class. It is financially more sustainable, as participants pay as they go and therefore, they can bear the burden of the tuition fee even when the corporate sponsorship is not full. It is less risky, as participants retain their job. However, Business Schools take care of their career and the return from the investment, offering dedicated counselling services about how to get the most from the job market opportunities and how to upscale to a global and rewarding career. The Alumni network also acts as a tremendous booster to be in touch with professionals and job opportunities. Last but not the least, it is family – friendly. And this is something very important in the Indian context as well as for women who seek to reshape their career after a family break.
